Boston Red Sox In The Market To Acquire Giancarlo Stanton
The biggest question of the Major League
Baseball offseason is “where will outfielder Giancarlo Stanton play next year?”
The Miami Marlins are willing to trade him if the price is right.
One team that is interested is Boston.
The Red Sox are known for spending
money. Stanton is already looking at $25 million a year for the next 11
years. Nevertheless, the Red Sox may not be able to pass up the
opportunity for Stanton because of what he can do for the team.
And the Sox could use a veteran like
Stanton. They have Andrew Benintendi who has only one full year of MLB
experience. Jackie Bradley and Mookie Betts are the only experienced
outfielders. Adding Stanton would make this an improved out fielding
team.
If they make the trade for Stanton, his
natural position is right field. The Red Sox would need to move the
outfield. Bradley is a center fielder but can play all the positions in
the outfield. He will need to move to left field. Betts has been a
centerfielder in Major League Baseball and that is where he will play. Benintendi would be the backup in case
somebody is hurt or needs a rest.
Stanton is the hitter the Red Sox are
looking for to enhance the lineup. He is dangerous because of his ability
to hit the long ball and move his teammates on the bases. Stanton hit
.281 with 59 home runs and 132 RBI’s last season. That will help the Red
Sox make the postseason again if he has those numbers next year.
The Marlins control all the chips in the
trade. They will want young talent. The Red Sox will do whatever it
takes to land Stanton. Only time will tell if they have enough to land
Stanton.
